Steel Authority of India Limited’s Bokaro Steel Plant has registered a steady growth path both in production and projects in the year 2012. 

Commissioning of the rebuilt zero emission Coke Oven Battery 2 in March 2012 was one of the major highlights. Built with the latest technology this zero emission battery will go a long way in controlling pollution. Earlier in June 2011 had seen the commissioning of the rebuilt zero emission Coke Oven Battery 1. 

2012 also brought about the hot trial of Cast House Granulation Plant 6 for BF 3.Efforts for installing similar facilities in other Cast Houses was also made.

In February 2012, Dr Syed Ahmad, the Governor of Jharkhand, inaugurated the 300 tonne 2nd ladle heating furnace in CCS. Substantial progress has been made in the construction of the state of the art upcoming CRM 3 complex and work is on at war footing to complete the project at its earliest.

Mr CS Verma chairman of SAIL had earlier inaugurated the Coil Packaging Line 2 of CRM-3 in March 2012.

For the supply of Granulated slag to BOJCL, a JV project with BSL, a new conveyor was installed in the month of July. A new Ammonium Sulphate Plant has received a shot in the arm.

Another highlight has been the decommissioning of FCWS of its Tar Distillation Plant this year. 

Apart from all its achievements BSL has also registered a steady improvement in its Techno Economic Parameters. There has been subsequent increase in the production of Hot Metal, Crude Steel, Saleable Steel and HR Coil as compared to 2011.
